Yaesu ft-857d cannot access local repeater?
Ok here's my problem I have a yaesu ft-857d which is connected to a 3 element portable yagi (there is an bnc to N-type adaptor in use). Although all of the settings are ok shifts tones etc. i cannot access my local repeater. Note that I can access it using my HT vx-6 so there is no problem with the repeater. I dont have a SWR meter so i cannot check it. Also note that the reception of the ft-857d is OK but it seems that there is a problem with the transmission. It doesnt make sense tha repeater is just 1 km away and in line of sight (no buildings or anything else). What may be causing this? Is it the adaptor i use? The antenna is designed for use with HT so it has a BNC connector.
Since the receiver is ok that seems to rule out the BNC to N adapter, and of course the rest of the antenna system.
Make contact with another local amateur licensee and ask if they have a VSWR meter and load and if you may use it.
Better still, acquire your own.
