Does anyone else have the Bose Lifestyle VS-2 video upconverter?
The Bose Lifestyle VS-2 is a video UP converter. I hadn't ever seen anything capable of UP converting the quality of normal TV and DVD's together until now. Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with one of these or something similar. If you don't know GOOGLE it.
There are a large number of video upconversion devices available. Most new A/V receivers priced at about $300+ have this feature built in. They will upconvert all incoming video signals to a single format (usually component or HDMI).
A video upconverter is convenient because all your video devices can connect to it, then it converts them all to a single type of signal, then you only have to run one set of cables to your TV.
A video upconverter simply changes the format of the video signal (example: from composite video 480i to component video 480p). It DOES NOT increase the quality/detail of the signal, it just changes the format.
Although some video upconverters do a much better job than others, none of them can add detail that wasn't in the original signal. For example, a signal upconverted from 480i to 720p will not be as detailed as a signal that's originally 720p. So the signal coming from the composite video output on your VCR (480i), when upconverted to HDTV resolution (1080i), will not look anything like an HD signal; it will just look like a VCR signal displayed at 1080i.
