Will I still get proper surround sound if place my Center speaker "on the floor" or "on a low, coffee table"?
ANOTHER QUESTION: Does the center speaker have to be "exactly" aligned with the Front Left and Right speakers? Or can I put it slightly nearer to me while the Front Left and Right speakers are farther away?

On the floor is definitely not ideal. Put it on some sort of stand if possible. Mine is just below the screen angled up toward the listening position. The receiver should have settings for speaker distance. For example if your main speakers are each 10 ft away from you and the center is 8 ft away then you just set this in the receivers speaker setup menu. It will then put in appropriate delays to make it the same as if the speakers were all the same distance away.
