How promising is a career in classic rock radio broadcasting?
I personally love classic rock music, and would love a career in radio broadcasting at a nice classic rock radio station. But I'm wondering if this is a good career to follow. I realize that in the future, classic rock and other oldies will only get less popular, so by the time I finished college, would many station would be willing to hire?
Yeah, unfortunately classic rock stations are slowly slipping away into the mist. I don't think it's a good career choice. It seems like most of the DJ's only work a few hours a day and those people are like in their fifties now. I say that because I listen to this one female DJ - and have been for like the past thirty years. She has a GREAT radio voice, but she's got to look really old by now. And I don't care about that, by the way. But she's what one of my female friends would call a dinosaur. She probably makes just OK money spinning records and playing commercials. She obviously enjoys it. But I wouldn't really say that I would call it a well-paying or promising 'career choice'.
I'm an aging hippie myself (I'm 45) and I really find that classic rock stations are slipping. How is a Phil Collins song 'classic rock'? ROFL That crap sucks. I generally only hear one good classic rock song per hour these days when I bother to turn on my stereo. It seems like they spin mostly commercials these days. So I just listen to my vast CD collection instead of the radio stations.
