Huge difference.
The Cortex dMIX-300 Digital Music Control Station is the name of a specific product but "a Turntable" is a type of electronic equipment.
Googling Digital Music Control Station will bring up only the Cortex dMIX-300 whereas googling "turntable" will bring up many different devices by many different manufacturers.
But, one can consider "digital music control station" as a type of device as well and not necesarrilly a specific device by a particular manufacturer. If you were to consider it as a type of device, then a DMCS is a peice of equipment that you would use to manipulate music that is being stored in a digital format. Traditionally, a turntable has controlled only analog signals. However, there is technology out there that uses a tradittional turntable as a control for digital music.
So, in a nut shell DMCS will control only a digital signal, whereas a turntable could actually manipulate both analog and digital.
I've used both and often, analog purists frown down on the digital medium and claim that it's not true DJing or the digital realm is easier.
The main reason I disagree that digital is easier is because with vinyl, the DJ in in direct contact with the medium and that tactile nature of vinyl makes certain aspects of beatmatching and queing far easier than it is in the digital realm. The digital realm did initially introduce the concept of Auto beatmatching and there, the purists are right. Auto beatmatching does make certain aspects of DJing quite a bit easier but it does and will never make up for a lack of creativity.
Another thing that the purists do not make a note of is that with vinyl you can actually see the prgression of the track from the grooves on the vinyl. When the digital realm was mostly CD, the DJ had no way of actually seeing the track. A good DJ knew their songs very well, knew when the track was approaching a crescendo and when the track was going to break down.
With software based mixing, the playing field truly has been levelled.
