What do I need to look for when purchasing a digital receiver?

Looking to hook up my new HD TV and HDMI compliant devices up to a digital receiver. I've been stuck on analog up until now, what should I look for when purchasing a digital receiver.

You'll want plenty of HDMI ports (switching, not pass through) and HD audio decoding. Check out the Onkyo TX-SR606. It decodes HD audio and has 4 HDMI (switching, not pass through) ports. It's a great deal for the money.
