should i get single or dual voice coil?
i have a kicker zx300.1 amp and i am gunna get a 12 inch sub. would it be better to get a dvc or single? from what i have heard dual is the way to go. which would you reccomend considering the single voice coil sub is cheaper....thanks!
The _only_ deciding factor of much substance between a DVC and a SVC is whichever lets you wire it to the amp in the way that you want it. There are sometimes slight differences in T/S parameters between equivalent DVC and SVC subs but it is incidental, not by design.
Sensitivity is not directly related to SVC vs. DVC. DVC is not hands down better than SVC. You _must_ use both voice coils when using a DVC speaker. If it is a 4ohm DVC then your options are then 2ohm configuration (parallel) or 8ohm configuration (series). You cannot use a 4ohm DVC as a 4ohm speaker. If you want the sub to be a certain load ... and you don't anticipate it ever needing to be used as a different load ... then you might as well buy the appropriate SVC.
DVC is for wiring options ... only.
Also, to begin my opinion ... do not wire speakers in series ... and if you can avoid it do not get yourself into a situation where you wire the voice coils themselves in series. Series = longer signal path = more noise induced.
For your situation ... you want a 2 ohm load ... and since 2 ohm SVC speakers are not as common ... I recommend you get a 4ohm DVC speaker, wire the voice coils in parallel, and you'll have a 2ohm load.
