my dvd burner says on it compact recordable as well as dvd r + rw why wont it recongize cd r it will play a cd
It will play dvd's and it will burn dvd's but it wont burn cd's
It should burn CDs, but you need a CD burning program, there are DVD burning programs that burn data DVDs similar to the way that it will burn a data CD, but is only meant for DVD discs (some software will use the same interface for both, but not all), some programs (like Nero) will have a menu for what you choose to do, if you try to burn a CD using the DVD wizard, it won't burn since it can't a DVD disc in the drive
To see if the system is noticing if there is a CD-R in there or not (assuming you have XP or Vista), go to My Computer and see if the drive has a CD-R icon, if it dosen't, then it's either a problem with the operating system or the drive, but if it does show, it means you are using the wrong software
