How do you hand crank a engine to test if it is seized?
Should it be reasonably easy to hand crank a 1976 Buick Lesabre Custom to test if the motor is seized? We had the starter tested and that is not the problem. What are the steps involved in hand cranking the engine, and if this does not work what are other things we can try to do to diagnose the problem and save the engine?? Thank you!
remove the spark plugs, if standard shift place in neutral, use a socket wrench on the crankshaft nut at the front of the engine to try to turn the engine over. it should turn easily if it doesn't your in trouble. a second way is to use a spark plug air adapter to pressurize a cylinder that is near top dead center. the air pressure should turn the engine.
