How do I remove dried liquid nail adhesive off of my ceiling?
The former owner glued styofoam sheets as (ineffective) insulation on the attic ceiling. We've torn it all down, had real insulation blown in, but are left with a ceiling marked with 3-6 inch spots of liquid nails. Sanding it with a palm sander takes forever, scaping it with a knife takes the plaster right off. And there is so much that I'd have to use a gallon of most solvent - which is not so good for my organic parts.
The easiest way is to mechanically scrape the adhesive off with a sharp chisel or scraper. If you are careful you will not damage the plaster too badly. You might try a heat gun to soften it first.Skim coat with drywall taping compound to repair the plaster. The solvent method will be very messy and I'll bet you still have to repair the plaster anyway.
