record player sound quality?
i don't know much about record players, but the sound on my record player is really low when i hook it up to speakers. i know i need a phono preamp or something like that, according to another question asked on here, but my question is does it matter what kind of phono preamp i get? i have a technics SLQ200 turntable...?
i know i cant just hook up speakers to the turntable.. thats why im asking what kind of phono preamp i need...
a phono preamp is a phono preamp to a point... you'll get what you pay for in quality. they run from $20.00 to upwards of $300.00. most of the fair quality preamps are in the $50.00 range and that should suffice. you may look into finding an integrated receiver/amp at a pawn shop that's a preamp/amp/tuner combination. if you don't need the radio shop for an integrated amp which is a preamp/amp with a phono input.
some turntables still available from audio-technica have a built in preamp in the turntable itself so you can still plug into the aux input on a home theater because most home theater audio systems no longer support turntables so don't have preamps built into them.

i've dealt with musician's friend and would rate the five stars. i've never dealt with bh photo video so i can't say one way or another about their customer service. call the vendors before purchasing...
also,you can use the output from the receiver to a 1/8" stereo plug running to the line in on your computer's sound card in conjunction with audiograbber free software http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ to record your vinyl to .wav and CDex free software http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/download.html to convert the .wav files to .mp3 so you can listen to your vinyl on your ipod...
