Can a pilot light burn out a thermocouple?
Can a pilot light on a set of gas logs burn out a thermocouple?
Thermocouples aren't made to live forever. In order for them to produce enough of a small electrical charge (mili-volts) the tip has to be heated . I don't believe the pilot light burns them out any faster at a higher flame. You can only heat something that hot for so long. You have to make sure the pilot hits the thermocouple and is high enough to ignite the gas burner instantly. If it's too low then the gas valve opens and the inside chamber is filled with gas causing it to have a delay in the ignition and a small popping or wooshing sound
