Does it matter what power adapter I use for the iPod touch?

Im getting a iPod touch next week and I found out that it does not come with a power adapter. Do I have to have an apple brand power adapter or can I just buy any kind? If I get a cheap power adapter will that mess up my ipod's battery life?

you can use anything apple overprices all their chargers, and accesories i use an offbrand one that i bought from wall-mart and it works fine and my battery life hasnt been affected by it.
