what happens if you hook up both the speaker level connections and a preamp out on a subwoofer?

Discovered my sister hooked up a subwoofer using both the passively powered speaker level connections and the separately powered preamp line out connection. Sub doesn't work but it is really old. Is there a quick fix or is it time for a new sub?

If it's a good quality sub, it shouldn't matter. If you can't get the sub to work with either input, then it sounds like it has a problem.

What's the make/model? Does it have a fuse or circuit breaker?
