I want an onkyo Onkyo M-282, just for music!

so im planning on buying a amp to get a cleaner sound for my Klipsch RB-51 speakers the onkyo M-282

Vincent V is wrong. That is a Power Amplifier, not an integrated amplifier or a receiver. Receivers & integrated amps have a built in preamp. Power amps do not have a built in preamp.

You plug things like CD players, radio tuners & tape players into a preamplifier & the amplifier hooks up to the preamp.

The preamp is what controls the volume of the power amp. Most also have tone controls.

Vincent V was correct about your link, that is an equalizer, not a preamp.

There are surround sound receivers that also have line outputs for hooking power amps, but that would most likely be a more expensive route than your current budget would allow.

On the face of the pre amp there is a phono input selector switch which allows you to adjust the cartridge load on phono 1 and 2. Phono 3 input is designated just for a moving coil cartridge. You can also connect 2 different amps thru the pre out connections on the back. With the 2 inputs for tape, you can have a reel to reel and a cassette deck!
