How to get a job doing theater lights or sound?
Anyone have any ideas on how to get into theater type work for lighting or sound?
I used to do lights back in high school but moved to TV Production in College and would like to move back into theater work part time while in college. I have no idea where to even start looking for jobs though...
I'll assume in your experience or courses of study you've had some theater technology courses? A 2 year degree program wouldn't hurt, but to DO Lights/Sound/Run the boards, you might check into IATSE, the union that is largely in control of the technical workers, and production aspects of live Performance Theater.
Certainly there are small venues, community theaters who have multi tasking staff, but for $$$ you'd need to connect with IATSE for larger venue gigs, or permanent theater positions
