Speaker grill recovering question?
I have a pair of vintage Pioneer floor speakers from the late 1970's to early 1980's. They are good speakers, but i hate the way they look with the dark brown woodgrain. I would like to refinish them in a lighter color, and recover the grills. Could i make new grills instead of recovering the present ones? If i recover the present ones, i would have to glue the fabric to the frame which i would think would be a pain in the a##. I think it would be easier just making new grills.
gluing the fabric to the grill is fairly simple - use spray on contact cement (3m is popular brand) - go to local craft shop they will sell this in various types and stickiness
have done this a few times myself and works great - basically spray the back of the grill assembly - and then fold the fabric over the edges - start in the middle and work your way around gently stretching and aligning the fabric - try a pratise one on a board and some old material - once you get the hand of it - very simple
