How to?: Stereo Receiver into a Single Speaker?
I've recently moved my older receiver (Yamaha R-V905) into my computer room. It's a 5.1 ready receiver which can, obviously, be run in standard 2-channel stereo. The problem I'm having here is space and would like to run this receiver into a single speaker (mono).
My question is how to wire this properly? Or do I need another accessory to make this work properly? I haven't messed with this kind of problem in a while and my memory is a bit hazy... school was a long time ago heh.
The receiver can be run in 4 or 8 ohm operation and the single speaker is 8 ohm.

If I run the amp bridged should I go in 8 ohm or 4 ohm mode when running a single 8 ohm speaker?
Connecting to either the left or right side will work but again you will only be hearing 1/2 the program. Consider using a Y cable such as a Dual RCA Male to a single RCA male. Use the dual end to pull both sides ( left & right ) from your source such as a CD player. Use the single end ( Now carrying both sides ) to plug into the left input of your AVR. Then connect your single speaker to the left output. You will then get both sides from one speaker. You might also consider adjusting the output balance to full left so your AVR is not attempting to drive a speaker output without a load.
