Subwoofer crossover question?
i have two 12 inch kenwoods in a ported box and im curious if i set my amps crossover to 60 if that would damage them..?
setting it to 60 means it is cutting out the frequencies over 60Hz. you will be fine...you should be able to go up to about 200-250 for most subs. if you have a ported box you may want to use the sub sonic filter (ssf) if you amp has one...the ssf cuts out the frequencies lower than the tuning freq of your box. below the tuning freq., your box will not have enough back pressure to support the cone anymore....that's why it is recommended to use it for ported enclosures. if you don't know what your box is tuned to, set if at about 30-34Hz....that should be good. if your amp doesn't have, then don't worry about....i never use mine anyways but i tune my boxes pretty low to start with.
