For an AC power supply adapter, does more Amps than minimum matter (see question for details!)?
My elliptical uses an adapter for AC power supply. It requires a "6V 2A minimum." Can I get an adapter with different amps or volts, as long as it is higher then 6v and 2A? I know this seems self-evident, but I don't want my device to burn out.
If the equipment requires 6V 2A then you certainly must stick to 6V although if you got something like 6.2V this would have no adverse effect. The current rating should be 2A minimum so you can get anything above this as the equipment will draw as much current as it requires for the job.
Choosing a supply capable of delivering say 5A, will not mean the elliptical will be forced to take 5A and screw up, it just means the supply is capable of giving 5A if the elliptical needs it. As only 2A is required then the equipment will only draw this and no more.
If the adaptor has a barrel plug then just make sure the polarities are as required, ie if the elliptical needs the outer of the plug to be at a positive voltage then be sure that the supply you get matches this requirement.
