Installed a shower base and stall 4 months ago from lowes has 6" crack in base can we repair?
we would have to remove the entire surround to replace the base i bought a 16.99 repair kit from Lowe's will it work.
It may seal the crack to prevent leaking for now, however it's not going to look too good or solve the problem.
The problem is with the installation, I would imagine that it is one of those fiberglass shower pans your talking about? The problem with those is that they need to be supported underneath to prevent stress cracks when you stand on it, most of them only touch the floor on the four sides and have a center or edge drain so most of the center is not supported and flexes when you stand in it if not installed properly.
There are several ways to do that, the first and easiest is to use play sand (sold at Lowe's also) to fill in any voids between the bottom of the pan and the floor. This will keep it from flexing when you stand on it, you can also use expanding foam to fill in any voids however if not used correctly it could cause the pan to lift with expansion, so carefull weighting is required.
As far as having to remove the entire surround that may or may not be necessary depending on how it's installed and the material it's made from.
