The Cheapside Street disaster in Anderston, Glasgow, on March 28, 1960 saw a whisky warehouse explode, showering the area with masonry. Fourteen firemen and five members of the Glasgow Salvage Corps were killed, making it the worst peace time loss of life for the British Fire Service.
