but it doesn't have a headshell, would this headshell work? it appears the pins match up but would like someone who actually knows to help

I ordered the headshell today. would this cartridge be the kind i need to get. It says p-mount but i didnt know if there were a difference in plug-in, magnetic, etc.

also if that cartrige is garbage can you please recommend one?
Yes, that is the correct P-mount headshell for your turntable. You can only use a plug-in P-mount cartridge with this headshell. There was also a headshell for 1/2" standard mount cartridges that came with this table.

Sorry... I just saw the second part to your question now...
I hope you didn't order the cartridge yet. It has a conical stylus and the carbon fiber / plastic cantilever which I believe is Audio Technica's bottom of the line. This cartridge will be prone to tracking distortion and will have a limited frequency range with "thick" sounding highs.
Amazon is selling a cartridge that is about 2 steps up in the line for the same price. This one has a .3 x .7 elliptical stylus which will track much better and an aluminum cantilever. This is a P-mount cartridge that comes with an adapter for standard mount headshells as well...

The Audio Technica 311EP has the same stylus shape and size, but it's supposed to be a little better for some reason. Maybe something different about the coils in the cartridge body... It's selling for $29.99...

I've seen these cartridges sell for $50.00 - $70.00 elsewhere. These are very good prices.
