How do I put voice recordings onto my computer and then onto my ipod? Do I need a special voice recorder?

I'm learning foreign languages and would like to voice record myself and then put it onto my ipod so i can listen to it on the go.
Do I need to buy a digital voice recorder? How do I get these recordings onto my computer and then onto my itunes?

For what you want to do, you will need some sort of voice recorder (analog or digital), and then you would have to convert the analog audio (if that's what you use) to a digital format (such as .wav or .mp3) so that it could be stored on your computer and then transferred to your iPod.

The best (easiest and most convenient) way to do this is to connect a microphone to your computer (if it has a microphone 'mic' jack) so that you can record your voice and use a program like Windows Media Player or other audio manipulation program to convert the file to a format compatible with your iPod.

The other option is to buy an inexpensive digital voice recorder that has a USB connection, which will enable you to record your voice, download the recorded file to your computer via a USB connection, and then convert the file to a compatible format if necessary.

I bought a cheap RCA digital voice recorder with built-in USB connection at Walmart for $35. I have recorded several audio files, transferred them to my PC, and then transferred them to an MP3 player.
