synthesizer vs. DSP keyboard? ?
i am a young musician looking to join a band, i play piano/keyboard. my friend's band is looking for a keyboardist, but they said they need someone with a synthesizer [i believe the effect they are going for is that they want the piano to sound like an organ] I have a yamaha DGX-300, which has DSP. i know that both synthesizers and DSP uses microprocessing. so ultimately, what is the difference? is my keyboard what they need?
From a technical point of view a synthesizer needs to use a DSP to obtain the waveform associated with each instrument, but this process consume a lot of computer power a the builder need to develop precise equation to 'simulate' every on instrument they want to include on the Keyboard.
There are a different approach preferred by builders. They could omit the DSP if they store in a memory the 'digital values' of every type of wave form for every type of musical instruments. In this approach the instrument don't need to calculate the wave form, it 'reads' the value store on the memory and play the appropriate sound, recorded from an original instruments.
Musicians use to preferred the second approach, because they 'tell' that it have the better fidelity.
